Turning Blue to Green for a Cleaner Tomorrow: The DS Services Environmental Initiative
You hear the words, "environmental stewardship" and "environmental sustainability" all the time now, but what do they mean to you, your life and the earth? These terms generally refer to maintaining natural resources to help ensure their quality, availability and longevity.
Stewards for Environmental Responsibility
In 2008, DS Services initiated Stewards for Environmental Responsibility (SPHERE) to create programs to preserve our natural resources. We proudly sponsor students in the Student Conservation Association, which provides hands-on conservation service opportunities.
DS Services practices environmental responsibility by asking our employees to:
- Save paper and toner when printing, copying and completing routine tasks.
- Recycle printer cartridges.
- Save energy by turning off lights, computers, printers and other electronic devices when not used for extended periods.
In addition, DS Services' trucks are set to stay under 65 mph and are programmed to shut down after 5 minutes of idling, which reduces fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
